Wireshark is a free and open-source packet analyzer. It is used for network troubleshooting, analysis, software and communications protocol development, and education. Originally named Ethereal, in May 2006 the project was renamed Wireshark due to trademark issues.

The offical web states that: "Wireshark and the "fin" logo are registered trademarks of the Wireshark Foundation". Hwever it seems that The Wireshark logo and trademark belong to Riverbed Corporation (see http://www.riverbed.com/). According to the official web instead: " Riverbed is Wireshark's primary sponsor and provides our funding. They also make great products. "
