LocalWiki

LocalWiki is a grassroots effort to collect, share and open the world’s local knowledge.We want anyone, anywhere to be able to learn about where they live — their local government, the history of their neighborhoods, streets, social movements, noteworthy local figures, social services, schools – every facet of life in their community. And we believe that this vast collection of local knowledge should be created by the people who know it best - individual community members working together. There are already over 70 independent LocalWiki projects in 9 countries and in 7 languages.

P2P Wikisprint

The P2P WikiSprint brings together activists, researchers, hackers, journalists, etc. to map and document P2P collaborative experiences

ClickWorkers

A small NASA experimental project that uses public volunteers (nicknamed "clickworkers" on the site) for scientific tasks that require human perception and common sense, but not a lot of scientific training. Clickworkers are able to work when, and for however long they choose, doing routine analysis that would normally require months of work by scientists or graduate students.

Morpheus

Morpheus was a file sharing and searching peer-to-peer client for Microsoft Windows, developed and distributed by the company StreamCast, that originally used the Opennap protocol, but later supported many different peer-to-peer protocols.

A NerdKits microcontroller kit is appropriate for software hackers looking to branch out into electronics, and has educational material to allow even middle-schoolers and high-schoolers (ages 12+) looking for a fun challenge to learn by doing, especially with the help of a techie parent! 4chan

4chan is an English-language image-based bulletin board website. Users generally post anonymously, with the most recent posts appearing above the rest. 4chan is split into various boards with their own specific content and guidelines. There are boards dedicated to a variety of topics, from Japanese animation and culture to videogames, music, and photography. Registration is not required, nor is it possible (except for staff).
